Ethiopian Social Enterprise Programme is a three-year project which builds on a pilot initiative that the British Council had implemented since 2015. The specific objective is to build an enabling ecosystem of support that encourages the growth of social enterprises as an integral part of the economy in Ethiopia.
In line with the above, we, in collaboration with Social Enterprise United Kingdom (SEUK), are carrying out a Social Enterprise policy analysis in Ethiopia. As part of this, we conducted a social Enterprise Policy Analysis with key actors in the Social Enterprise sector on 8 November 2018. The findings from this session and the general recommendations of the existing report, “The State of Social Enterprise in Ethiopia,” will feed into this analysis.
The study seeks to understand what potential future changes to policy can support the development of social enterprise in Ethiopia. It also draws on examples from the UK, which has a well-established social enterprise policy infrastructure.
