English Online self-study course is the new self-access online English course for the workplace and employability which enables British Council’s proven online learning expertise to be available to your employees anytime you wish. It is a cost-efficient and flexible solution to train large numbers of learners. It has an excellent track record as a self-access learning suite which can be delivered with minimal support. It can also be used to further supplement face to face training and give your employees extra flexible English practice.
What does the course consist of?
English Online self-study course is for adult learners of English organised across four levels (A0 – B1) of the Common European Framework. It helps young professionals to boost their career prospects. Each level is made up of 40 units which are in turn packaged into 8 modules (1 module = 5 units of content and a module end test). Each module takes around 45 – 55 hours to complete.
Video and audio based content featuring a range of accents is followed by interactive practice activities. Course materials focus on three different workplace contexts:
1. Entering the workplace: applying for jobs, preparing for an interview
2. In the workplace: interacting in the workplace, meetings, presentations (including informal settings and socialising outside the workplace)
3. Facing the public: describing products and services, interacting with clients and customers.
How is it delivered?
Learners are provided with individual accounts to access the courses. This means they can check their progress and scores which are automatically recorded in the system’s grade book. Every week a report with learner’s latest progress on the course will be emailed to HR or as appropriate to keep you up to date with course progress.
