British Council-Mapping of the Ethiopian Creative Ecosystem

The Arts programme of the British Council in Ethiopia would like to share with you research that illustrates the overall Ethiopian creative economy.

This research was conducted starting in January 2022 involving multiple stakeholders from government agencies to policymakers and various international cultural organisations. The research was conducted involving more than 300 creatives using different data collection methodologies, such as desk research, case studies, panel discussion and surveys.

The key outcome of this study was to develop a research paper that illustrates a holistic approach to understanding the appetite that exists amongst young creatives between the age of 18 – 35 and the type of artforms performed. It also identifies the opportunities and challenges for creatives and gives programme approach, design, and delivery recommendations.

We hope that the report will provide an in-depth insight to you and your organization’s work on the creative economy sector in Ethiopia.
