Choose how to take your IELTS test and book online

You can take your test at one of our official test centres on paper or on a computer. All you need is a valid identification document and a bank card if you want to pay online.

You can also take IELTS Online (IELTS Academic only) from the comfort of your home or any private space with a stable internet connection.

What you need to book: 

  1. Make sure you have a form of valid ID (passport or national ID card) at hand, as you will need to provide details when you book your test. Please note that candidates under 18 years of age have to supply written consent by a parent or guardian in order to apply for a test place.
  2. Download and read our Information for Candidates, which contains important information about the test format, the question types and the test results. Please note that IELTS is not recommended for test takers under the age of 16. 
  3. All exam booking and confirmation processes are carried out online.

  4. Pay for your test. IELTS payments:Please send the scanned copy of your bank slip and your passport/ID copy through . We do not accept paper copies for exam payment in our office.

    Payment instructions for Exam’s test fees:

    • Fees change every month based on the bookkeeping rate.

    • Payments are conducted through Bank transfer and Bank deposit.

    • Account name: British council Ethiopia

    • Account number: 1000108853542

    • It is MANDATORY to state candidates name and IELTS reference number without the hyphens on the depositor’s name/ narrative section of the payment slip while depositing the money at the bank.

    - Example: if the candidate’s reference number is A3-ET001-5-6252138 then it should be filled as A3ET00156252138 on the deposit slip together with the candidate’s full name

    • Please send your payment slip to: within five days of registration (we are unable to accept paper copies for payments in our office)

    • If we do not receive your complete payment information within five days your exam booking will be automatically cancelled.

    • Please put the subject in the email as: IELTS exam payment

  5. Once you have made the payment, please email us the following documents within five working days using
  • a copy of the email confirming that you have been registered online 
  • a valid scanned copy of your passport or national ID card
  • a test fee cash deposit slip 

If we do not receive the above documents within five working days, your application will automatically be cancelled. 

After you have booked your test

You will receive emails confirming:

  • the start time of your test and the venue address
  • your Speaking Test date
  • your access to the free online preparation course: IELTS Ready: Premium.
